What affects AC prices in Orlando
- OUC's heat pump rebate starts at 15.2 SEER2, so the cheapest 14.3 SEER2 systems miss it. Moving to 16 SEER2 adds about $1,000 to $1,500 on a 3-ton system in Smart Home's table and qualifies for a rebate.
- Ductwork and electrical work aren't in Smart Home's table. It says they can swing a quote by $1,500 to $5,000, so ask for them as separate line items.
- Which utility serves you matters. City of Orlando homes are mostly on OUC; many surrounding areas are on Duke Energy Florida, which has its own HVAC rebates.
AC permits in Orlando
- Inside city limits, the City of Orlando's Permitting Services issues mechanical permits. Its mechanical permit forms page has the application. Permitting questions: 407.246.2271.
- Homes in unincorporated Orange County, Winter Park, and other nearby cities permit through the county or their own city.
- Smart Home Air & Heat includes the permit in its prices. Confirm that every quote you compare does the same.
Rebates and help paying in Orlando
- OUC pays $45 to $1,150 for a heat pump or AC rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher, depending on size and efficiency, as a bill credit. Submit the invoice and AHRI certificate within six months of purchase. OUC also offers up to $100 for duct sealing.
- Homes on Duke Energy Florida can use Duke rebates of $300 to $1,000 after a free Home Energy Check.
- The federal tax credit for heat pumps and central AC ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025, according to the IRS.
Rebates and assistance programs open, close, and change as funding allows. Confirm current status with the program before you plan around it. Details reviewed October 2026.
