AC Replacement Cost in Wellington, FL
Prices reviewed November 2026
A West Palm Beach company's Wellington guide (April 20, 2026) prices installs by tier, including equipment and standard installation: budget $6,800 to $9,500 and mid-tier $9,600 to $13,500. A Greenacres company's Palm Beach County guide (updated July 2026) is lower, at $5,500 to $8,000 for 14 to 15 SEER2 and $8,000 to $11,000 for 16 to 18 SEER2 split systems with permit included.
The Wellington guide doesn't say whether the permit or air handler is in its prices, and it is the only Wellington-specific price page we found. The county guide is not about Wellington.

The West Palm Beach company's Wellington guide, April 2026. Its worked examples: a 1,500 sq ft single-story home with a 3-ton, 16 SEER2 system at $10,500 to $12,800, including standard electrical, minor duct sealing, and a smart thermostat, and a 2,200 sq ft two-story home with a 4-ton, 17 SEER2 system at $13,200 to $16,800. A Palm Beach County company (August 2026) lists a 3-ton at $6,500 to $11,000 for an entry-to-mid-tier system with the permit and inspection included, lower than the Wellington guide's 3-ton rows; neither page says why.
What affects AC prices in Wellington
- Ducts are the swing item. The Wellington guide puts minor duct fixes at $600 to $2,500 and a full redesign or metal trunk replacement at $3,000 to $7,000 or more. The Greenacres company lists partial duct replacement at $1,500 to $4,000, and a Palm Beach County company puts ducts, when needed, at about $4,000 to $10,000.
- The Wellington guide names add-ons without prices: a line-set flush, panel upgrades, and a condensate pump or drain re-route. The Greenacres company prices an electrical upgrade at $500 to $2,500 and a condenser pad at $200 to $500.
- Summers are hot. At the National Weather Service's West Palm Beach airport station, the 1991-2020 July daily normals run from highs of 89 to 90 and a low of 76 to 77. That station isn't in Wellington.
- Repair prices to weigh against a new system, from a Boynton Beach company's guide updated June 2026 for Palm Beach County: a capacitor at $150 to $300, a fan motor at $250 to $600, a compressor repair at $600 to $1,800 or more, and a coil replacement at $600 to $2,000.
AC permits in Wellington
- The Village of Wellington's Building Division is at Village Hall, 12300 Forest Hill Blvd. (561-363-7907), and the village issues permits. The permitting guide says the village processes permits only electronically: plans go through ProjectDox, the application is emailed to the village, and fees are paid through the Self Service portal.
- The village's AC change-out packet asks for the permit application, an HVAC Replacement Worksheet, engineered attachment details or an A/C tie-down product approval, AHRI data, and a scope of work showing the total replacement value. A final inspection is required for all equipment replacements.
- The fee schedule lists an HVAC change-out at $125 per unit for 5 tons or less. It shows no date and lists a $150 building-permit minimum and state surcharges for building permits generally but doesn't say whether they also apply to a change-out, so ask what the total will be.
- The village's House Bill 803 notice says the $7,500 exemption starting July 1, 2026 does not cover electrical, gas, plumbing, pool barrier, structural, or mechanical work.
- No Notice of Commencement is needed for an HVAC repair or replacement under $15,000 (s. 713.135); the village packet asks for one only "if applicable."
Rebates and help paying in Wellington
- The utility's tariff lists Wellington among the communities FPL serves. FPL's AC rebate page offers an instant $200 credit on the invoice when an FPL-approved Participating Independent Contractor installs a new system with both indoor and outdoor units rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher.
- The village's SHIP page offers Wellington homeowners with low to moderate incomes an emergency repair grant of up to $15,000 and an owner-occupied rehabilitation loan of up to $50,000 (0% deferred, forgiven at the end of a five-year term). It doesn't name AC, and its note that the application portal closes June 30 gives no year, so ask the village whether it is taking applications.
- The village's Hometown Repair approved projects list includes "Repair/Replace Failing HVAC System." The page gives no cap, income limit, or status, so ask whether the program is active.
- Palm Beach County's LIHEAP HVAC replacement flyer describes up to $15,000 for county homeowners with a documented crisis, below 60% of state median income or 150% of the federal poverty level. The flyer gives no dates; call 833-273-9455 to ask whether a round is open.
- We couldn't confirm whether PACE financing is available in Wellington; the county PACE page tells owners in municipalities to check with their city. The federal tax credit for heat pumps and central AC doesn't cover equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025 (IRS).
Rebates and assistance programs open, close, and change as funding allows. Confirm current status with the program before you plan around it. Details reviewed November 2026.
Choosing an AC replacement company in Wellington
Wellington's change-out packet asks for wind-attachment proof that many quotes never mention, which makes it a good test of a quote.
- Ask who supplies the tie-down paperwork. The packet wants engineered attachment details or an A/C tie-down product approval, along with AHRI data and a completed HVAC Replacement Worksheet.
- Replacing only the condenser or only the air handler? The packet asks for manufacturer or Florida-registered engineer verification for a partial-system swap, and replacing ductwork brings plan review.
- The village ties its ProjectDox login to the contractor's registered email, so ask whether the company is registered with Wellington. Check the state license too on MyFloridaLicense.com; Class A and B air-conditioning contractors can install systems, Class C only services them (s. 489.105).
- Above a 10% deposit, the contractor has 30 days to apply for the permit and 90 days after it's issued to start, unless you agree otherwise in writing (s. 489.126).
The village's change-out packet says the permit application must be notarized for all owner-builders regardless of value. Wellington also has an owner-builder affidavit; we didn't find the village's rules for owners doing their own AC work, so ask the Building Division first.
